"SICK HOUSE & RADON LINKS"
A home that does not have enough fresh air is often referred to as
a 'sick house'
Over the years, many homeowners have undertaken projects to seal
up their homes to stop air infiltration. This is done by replacing windows with
energy efficient airtight windows, caulking gaps and cracks, installing seals on
exterior doors, replacing the home siding with an airtight wrap underneath,
etc.
Many building materials such as carpets, pressed and composite
wood furnishings, drapes, household cleaners, cosmetics and spray cans, etc.
emit toxic gases in the home.
Indoor air can be as much as 10 times more polluted than outside
air.
Radon is a radioactive gas that percolates out of the soil on
which your house is built. Radon gas is formed by the decay of radioactive
material naturally occurring in the soil in many areas of North America. Radon
is recognized as the second leading cause of lung cancer.
The answer is to ventilate your home. The normal recommendation is
to provide for a minimum of 8 complete air exchanges in the home every day.
The Airiva will bring outside fresh air into the home and vent
stale air outside while recovering up to 70% of the heating (in the winter) or
cooling (in the summer) energy. This is a tremendous saving on your utility bill
while improving your environment.
